Abacus breaks new ground with prestigious International Conference in Abu Dhabi
Abacus International, the Asia Pacific’s leading travel facilitator recently hosted leaders in the travel and leisure industry for the biennial Abacus International Conference in Abu Dhabi. The event which took place on the 14th to the 16thof October 2014 welcomed more than 500 travel professionals including airlines and agency owners from the Abacus global network to discuss the ground breaking changes and innovations driving the travel industry and, to celebrate its success by recognising some of its top performers.
The gathering took place on the breathtaking Yas Island, a spectacular destination with the flair and capacity to host exclusive international events of high caliber.The conference programme provided delegates with the unique opportunity to hear from industry leaders,as well as a chance to engage in interactive workshops which allowed them to exchange insight,thoughts and opinions with their peers.
Ten top performers of Abacus Sri Lanka were part of the Sri Lanka delegation. They included Gabo Travels (Pvt) Ltd, Sharmila Travels & Tours Pvt Ltd, Shan Air Services Pvt Ltd, George Steuarts Travel Ltd, Ceylon Air Wings Pvt Ltd, Lando Travels Pvt Ltd, Travel World Pvt Ltd, Pyramid Air Services Ltd, VMS Travels & Tours Pvt Ltd and Key Travels Pvt Ltd.
The three day conference closed with a gala dinner and an awards ceremony where Abacus took the opportunity to honour the outstanding achievements and performances of the top travel agencies in the competitive Asia Pacific region.
Mrs. Savithri Peiris, Managing Director for Gabo Travels received the Top Agency award for Sri Lanka while Mr Muthusamy Velusamy, Chairman of Sharmila Travels and Tours collected the award for second place and Managing Director and Chairman of Shan Air Services, Mr Sebamalai Nagarajah received the award for third place. The awards presented to the winners by Mr. Brett Henry, Vice President for Abacus International Pte Ltd as well as the General Manager for Abacus International Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Miss. Desiree Karunaratne.
The theme of the conference was “Breaking New Ground”, whereby several acclaimed speakers addressed the delegates over a course of three days to discuss 0the latest technological innovations and opportunities inspiring growth and enterprise in the travel and tourism industry.
