Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) recently commenced their first intake of Swinburne degree pathway programs with an impressive number of student enrolments. The NCHS campus was officially declared open at the grand opening ceremony held on the 21st of October 2014, by the Chief Guest, Hon. S.B Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, and the Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Robyn Mudie, Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka. The Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne and the chairperson of University Grants Commission, Professor Kshanika Hirimburegama, were among the many distinguished guests who graced the occasion.

The newly built campus is a purpose built facility, equipped with the latest technologies to cater to the modern educational needs of students. Speaking at the opening of the campus, the Minister of Higher Education, Hon. S. B Dissanayake said, that the private sector plays a vital role in Sri Lanka’s vision to become a global education hub and he highly appreciated all the hard work and initiatives taken by Nawaloka Holdings and the CEO of NCHS, Mr. Victor Rajeevan, to bring quality higher education opportunities to Sri Lanka. Her Excellency Robyn Mudie, Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, during her speech at the opening event said; “the Australian government places a high priority on building on the already strong education links we have with Sri Lanka. The inauguration of the joint campus between Swinburne University of Technology and Nawaloka College of Higher Studies is another step forward in this important endeavour”.

Following its opening, NCHS held its first student orientation program on the 23rd of October 2014. The soon to be undergraduates were given a glimpse of their student life at NCHS along with detailed information on study programs and important academic information on NCHS, Swinburne, Australia and Malaysia campuses. The students were also introduced to the local and international faculty and both students and parents had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions with the academic staff, which provided them the opportunity to learn more about the campus, faculty, facilities and its programs.

NCHS offers specially designed pathway programs for students who have completed their Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations. Students who have received their O/ Level results can apply for the Swinburne Foundation Studies pathway program, which guarantees fast-tracked entry to Swinburne’s bachelor degrees in just 8 months. This program not only provides students with entry-qualifications required for undergraduate studies, it also provides them with necessary resources, tools and support to help them prepare to successfully meet the challenges of studying for a bachelor degree. Students who have completed the Swinbur ne Foundation Studies program or A/Level examination are eligible to apply for the Swinburne UniLink (diploma) program, which is equivalent to the first year of a bachelor degree. The successful completion of this 8 month program will provide fast-tracked entry to the second year of a Swinburne bachelor degree. Swinburne pathway programs are offered in the streams of Business, IT and Engineering, granting students access to over 60 bachelor degree programs.
