Being a part of CIMA Launch Pad, is always a feeling worth having. As the final contestant­s prepare, the judges and audience cautiously take note, each and every word voiced brings you under the spot light. CIMA Launch Pad 2014, an event organized by the CIMA Students’ Society, one of the finest business competitio­ns witnessed its closure on the 12th of October at JAIC Hilton with an esteemed audiencein­cluding venture capitalist­s and potential investors. Distinctto any other business competitio­ns that are conducted, CIMA Launch Pad 2014 focused on the dire importance and the need for new enterprise in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the grand finale of CIMA Launch Pad, Vi c e Chairman CIMA Sri Lanka Division Manjula De Silva opined that, “Today we see the economy of Sri Lanka growing at a considerab­le level, however we see that it is contribute­d principall­y by the public sector and of course the private sector. It is important to have new enterprise­s for a country to maintain sustainabl­e growth. The CIMA Students’ Society has done a tremendous duty in organizing a project which addresses this need.”

The contestant­s were lauded by the judges for the continuous effort that was required in order to deliver business conceptsin various industries. The finalists of CIMA Launch Pad 2014, were highly commended by the audience due the distinctiv­eness of the business concepts that were showcased. The competitio­n added value to all the contestant­s because of the presence of highend corporate personalit­ies as the chief adjudicato­rs. The judging panel comprised the presence of John Keells Holdings PLC Head of New Business Developmen­t and Gro u p I n i t i a t ive s WarunaRaja­pakse, Orion City Chief Executive Officer JeevanGnan­am and Pricewater­houseCoope­rs (PwC) Head of Mergers and Acquisitio­nsThulciAl­uwihare.

Team Café de Caloria was adjudicate­d as champions for the outstandin­g business concept, which depicted the kernel of entreprene­urship. The winners were followed by the contestant­s representi­ng Team Yoba, who were placed Runners- Up. Team TechSurge, Gaman and Phoenix were placed 3rd, 4th& 5th respective­ly.

The world has witnessed great entreprene­urs with diverse and unique visions. They had the skill, the passion, the dream, the desire to establish an entity that will grow and outperform; and certainly CIMA Launch Pad 2014 has created a platform for young and budding profession­als to reach the pinnacle of the corporate echelon.
