About us
At La Trobe University we are ambitious and global thinkers. We produce wellrounded graduates with the theoretical and practical insights to make meaningful contributions in their chosen fields.
Established as Victoria’s third university, La Trobe University opened its doors to 552 students in 1967. We now offer more than 300 courses, and accommodate almost 35,000 students including over 8500 international students. Staff and students at La Trobe University interact with many communities, including other universities, business, industry and government – locally, nationally and internationally. Our researchers make a global impact, producing and applying some of Australia’s best research across a vast number of fields.
At all of our campuses, students enjoy learning and working environments that foster a strong sense of community and diversity.
Our main campus is located in Melbourne ( 14km from the city centre), which is consistently ranked as the world’s most liveable city. We also have seven other campuses located across metropolitan and regional Victoria, plus one in the heart of Sydney.
La Trobe is an international university, with strong links to a number of overseas partner institutions. All local and international students are encouraged to broaden their experience by studying overseas at one of our international exchange partners.

We have been awarded the best university in Victoria for international student experience ( Victorian International Education Awards – student experience, innovation in education – State Government of Victoria, 2013)
