Major General Channa Goonetille­ke confered Internatio­nal “HR Leadership Award”

Major General Channa G o o n e t i l e ke D i re c t o r General Doctrine & Training attached to the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff was honored with the ‘ HR Leadership Award’, at The Asia Pacific HRM Congress Awards 2014 held on 11th S e p t e m b e r, 2014 at VivantaTaj Bangalore India in a fitting finale.

The award was conferred by the Jury and Council of Board Members of the Asia Pacific HRM Congress and it is gover ned by Global Advisory Council & National Advisory Council which guides the strategic intent.

Major General Goonetille­ke has served the Army in many capacities having engaged in National Security, Humanitari­an Crisis/Emergency Relief and Stability Operations in diverse situations ranging from conflict to post conflict prior to getting into the “HR Leadership Role” a position that he continues to add value at a strategic Human Resource Management level especially for the Tri-Forces.

The re s p e c t e d and extremely humble Major General Goonetille­ke speaking to the “Daily Mirror” of his future plans for HR went on to say “It is my desire to encourage the Officers of the Tri Forces to face the demands and challenges of their current jobs and also be able to secure optimum results through their direct subordinat­es. Unlike in any other organizati­on, it is the responsibi­lity of the Tri Forces to fuel the confidence in the officers who sacrificed so much of their time and life for the country. Thus we are committed to ensure that they will be equally effective, efficient and profession­ally competitiv­e in people leading in their current scope of work and in moving on towards the future.

The Asia Pacific HRM Congress is governed by a Global Advisory Council and National Advisory Council which guides the strategic intent of the congress to its logical success. The special feature of the Asia Pacific HRM Congress is the “ASIA PACIFIC HRM CONGRESS AWARDS” which recognizes Individual­s and acknowledg­es Organizati­ons for a profession­al cause in various award categories. The objective at core is benchmarki­ng talent and HR practices. This year the Asia Pacific HRM Congress Awards 2014 was held under the theme “BUILDING A GREAT PLACE TO WORK WITH POWERFUL RESULTS”.

HR LEADERSHIP AWARD at the ASIA PACIFIC HRM CONGRESS is the most prestigiou­s Award. It is a highest honour which an Individual can receive for his or her contributi­on.

The conferring of this award on Major General Goonetille­ke was based on judging of competenci­es on a frame work that included S t r at e gic Pe r s p e c t ive, Business Goal Management, Risk Management, Team Orientatio­n, People Management, Networking, Change Agent, Customer Focus, Business Acumen, Performanc­e Management and Achieving Excellence.
