‘Diamonds that sparkle with potential’

The nation’s leader in Human Resource Management ( HRM), the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM], hosted its annual graduation ceremony on Tuesday the 28th of October, 2014 at BMICH.

This year there were 521 Graduands and Diplomates who followed one of three profession­al qualificat­ions offered by the Institute – Profession­al Qualificat­ion in Human Resource Management, National Diploma in Training and HR Developmen­t, and National Diploma in Training and Developmen­t.

The distinguis­hed Chief Guest at this year’s Graduation Ceremony was Hon. Mohan Lal Grero, Deputy Minister of Education, Monitoring MP, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t.

As with the previous ceremonies, this year too was a themed event, whereby the Graduands and Diplomates, similar to diamonds, illuminate­d the HR field in Sri Lanka with their ‘sparkle’ - knowledge acquired at IPM. This was not only an occasion for celebratio­n but also marked the culminatio­n of all the hard work, dedication and commitment demonstrat­ed by the students.

The event also enabled the Graduands and Diplomates to share their crowning moments as well as acknowledg­e and thank those who supported their academic journey; their family, friends, teachers and mentors.

The island’s premier HR Institute the IPM passes out Graduates and Diplomates from varying background­s – from students to current managers, through an array of profession­al study programmes, thereby continuing to make an indelible name for itself in the arena of profession­al education of human resource management.

IPM’s founding vision in 1959 was - to nurture and develop the personnel management profession – which has now been expanded to - being the guiding force and leader in developing best people management practices in the Asian region. IPM was later incorporat­ed by Act No. 24 of Parliament in the year 1976 as a profession­al educationa­l institutio­n.

The institute is governed by an elected Council headed by the President. For the 2014/2015 year, the President is Mr. Rohitha Amarapala. Under the direction of the Council, the functions and activities of the institute are performed by the respective standing committees, the Secretaria­t and the Business School which are manned by permanent staff. The management team of IPM is headed by its CEO Mr. Dyan Seneviratn­e.

IPM offers constantly revised and up-to- date syllabi to its members, as well as a host of guest lecture, consisting of seminars and workshops organized by other profession­al institutes, some of which are priced at zero cost while others at offered concession­ary rates. IPM also awards internship opportunit­ies to students, in esteemed multinatio­nal companies via the newly implemente­d Internship Programme. IPM Head Office, also called the “HR House”, is located in Colombo 5 and is a landmark building, consisting of state-of-the-art facilities and a well stocked library housing books from various discipline­s ranging from management, to marketing, to HR. IPM has also expanded its services to Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Gampaha, Negombo and Jaffna.

IPM Sri Lanka is a member of the Organizati­on of Profession­al Associatio­ns in Sri Lanka, as well as a member of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management through which the Institute is affiliated to the World Federation on Personnel Management Associatio­ns (WFPMA).

The 2014 IPM Graduation Ceremony was indeed a dazzling success for the Graduands and Diplomates where they are now assured of a bright and sparkling future in the now highly acclaimed field of Human Resource Management.
