“Crossroads- Leap to the future”

-

We live in a world where opportunities are countless. Yet, unfortunately most people are unaware of the possibilities, except the mainstream jobs and higher education paths. In order to combat this very timely issue of inadequate career guidance for the young, time has come. Upon these motives, the Old Boys’ Union of the Kalutara Holy Cross College had organized a career guidance workshop “Crossroads- Leap to the future” for the third year with the approval of the Education Department. It was held on the 26th Friday, September 2014 at Kalutara Holy Cross College auditorium from 9am till 1.30pm.

This workshop was focused mainly on the after A/L students in the area, but however is open to the after O/L students and any other keen and enthusiastic personalities. Over 800 such students attended with Rev. Father Dr. Camilas Fernando Rector as their chief guest. Since most teachers and parents themselves aren’t aware of the current opportunities in the market, this program was of great advantage. Due to the lack of information, most children end up being disappointed about their specific courses. Education on education is vital. The President of the OBU Mr. Aruna Fernando as assured, invited Mr. Damien Fernando who was a very inspiring key note speaker. It should also be added that, this free career guidance program wouldn›t have been possible if not for the consistent involvement of its efficient organizing committee. As well as the, Aitken Spence team speakers Mrs. Chathuskka Seneviratne and Ms. Ishara Wikramathilake. While Mr. Suriya Bible from Edexcel, Dr. Sudath Damsinghe from British Computer Society and Mr. H. A. K karunadasa as the Senior Area Manager of Kalutara District were an equally valued assets.

Moreover, well reputed educational institutions such as the American National College, Edexcel, ACCA, British Computer Society were in the making of this charity project along with Bank of Ceylon, Fonterra and Wijeya Newspapers acting as the cooperate sponsors. Special Guest Mr. Chaminda Vaas was definitely an exciting addition for the event, and he was interviewed by our very own Mr. Sujith Bandulahewa.

It should be acknowledged that a workshop of this caliber was vital for us and our country›s future thus couldn’t have a better timing to take place!
