D.S. Senanayake U 13 teams qualify for second round

At the end of the preliminar­y rounds of the Under 13 cricket tournament D.S. Senanayake College Under 13 ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams led their respective groups and qualified to play in the second round matches.

The Under 13 ‘A’ team played six matches and recorded three wins with two games being drawn and one loss. They beat President’s College, Rajagiriya, Ananda Sastralaya Kotte, and Veluwana College Dematagoda and drew with St. Benedict’s College Kotahena St. John's Nugegoda (both matches were hampered by rain) and went down narrowly to Royal Panadura.

DSS ‘A’ batting revolved around skipper Teron Baskaran, Kalindu Ransika the deputy captain , Lahiru Samaranaya­ke, Amjad Lye and Dhanushika Ellawala. Skipper Teron’s unbeaten 80 against Veluwana and Kulindu’s inning of 83 were the batting highlights of the preliminar­y round.

The spin trio of Maneendra Jayatillek­e (off spin), Kalana Jayawarden­e (off spin) and leg spinner Lahiru Samaranaya­ke were the main bowlers who troubled the opponents.

DSS ‘B’ played six matches and recorded four wins. Two matches ended in no decisions.

Their victories were over St. Peter’s ‘B’, Dharmaloka Kelaniya, De La Salle Mutuwal and Susamayawa­rdene College, Borella. They were held to no decisions in the matches against C.W.W. Kannangara and Isipathana ‘B’.

Chamath Yatawara, Thevindu Waduge and Thiviru Gunawarden­e were the main scorers while Chameen Ekanayake Thavindu Agnesh and Lakindu Ranaweera stood out with the ball.

Both teams were coached by Head Coach Anoj Fernando and Kelum Fernando while other facilities were looked after by Master-in- Charge Mohammed Ansaf.
