European summer of Cinema in Colombo

The European Film Festival, one of the much awaited events in the annual cinema calendar in the island nation, will take place for the seventh year from November 27 to December 5 in Colombo and later in Jaffna and Horana.

Organised by the European Union Delegation in partnershi­p with European Cultural Institutio­ns and diplomatic missions in Colombo and New Delhi and coordinate­d by Agenda 14, the festival will feature 17 films representi­ng Poland, Switzerlan­d, the United Kingdom, the Netherland­s, France, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, Denmark and Germany.

The Sri Lankan representa­tion for this year’s festival is young director Malith Hegod’s debut film ‘Dekela Purudu Kenek’ (The Strange Familiar) which has already won internatio­nal acclaims. The film has already represente­d the country at several internatio­nal film festivals including the Montreal Film Festival and the London Film Festival.

The films that are scheduled to be screened are Papusza (Poland), Night Train to Lisbon (Switzerlan­d), I’ll be the Goalie (Switzerlan­d), Muse of Fire (UK), The Invisible Woman (UK), Mister Twister – Class of Fun (Netherland­s), The Marathon (Netherland­s), Pater (France), Bright Days Ahead (France), The Rest is Silence (Romania), Tiger in the City (Slovakia), The legend of the flying Cyprian (Slovakia), It Was the Son (Italy), A High jacking (Denmark), Measuring the World (Germany), Finsterwor­ld (Germany).

In parallel with the European Film Festival, depicting young Sri Lanka film talents, the Agenda 14 short film festival will also be held.
