The Mascots AGM

The Mascots - that elite group of ex-planters of the Maskeliya / Upcot district - had their Annual General Meeting on November 15 at the Dutch Burgher Union.

The meeting, for which sponsorshi­p had been arranged by David ColinThome, Editor of The History of Ceylon Tea website, was well attended by members and their wives.

The President, Devaka Wickramasu­riya, delivered a comprehens­ive review of the progress of the group since its inaugurati­on in November 2013 with the most significan­t being the very healthy financial position the group is in as well the concession­s offered to all members of The Mascots by Asiri Surgical Hospital PLC arranged for by Dasarath Hettiarach­chi, Group Marketing Manager of the Asiri Group of Hospitals, an ex-planter and a member of The Mascots.

Mr. Wickramasu­riya also spoke of him being successful in establishi­ng contact with the family of the legendary L. A. Wright, the pioneer of Brunswick Group, Maskeliya and all present were delighted to see the photograph­s he had obtained from the personal albums of Mr. Wright sent to him by Mr. Wright's daughterin-law, Mrs. Janet Wright and grandson, Peter Wright.
