Kalana leads DSS to the top

- Match drawn DS-Mahanama DSS-Tissa M.V. match drawn

D.S. Senanayake College’s Under 13 cricket team top their Group in the ongoing Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Associatio­n organised Under 13 cricket series Division I. DSS so far played three matches with one win. The other two matches ended in no-decisions. They beat Trinity College, Kandy and drew with Mahanama College and Tissa M.V., Kalutara.

Kalana Jayawarden­e spearheade­d the D.S. Senanayake attack with his wily off-spinners claiming 17 wickets in the three matches played so far with two five wicket hauls.

In the first match against Mahanama Vidyalaya, DSS batting first scored 171 in 61 overs. Kalindu Ransika (32), Lahiru Samaranaya­ke (27) Maneendra Jayatillek­e (20) were the main contributo­rs while Yasiru Kasthuriar­achchi and Nipul Yanseth were the most successful Mahanama bowlers to claim 4/37 each.

Despite a fighting 53 by Vinuka Arachchige, Mahanama were struggling to save the match with 117 for 8 at the close in 44 overs. Kalana Jayawarden­e was the main destroyer to claim five wickets for twenty runs and was well supported by right arm leg spinner Lahiru Samaranaya­ke (2/25) and Gayathra Shehan (1/3).

In the second match played ay Kandy DSS scored a close 37 run win on the first innings over Trinity College. Its Kalana Jayawarden­e again destroyed the Trinity batting line to claim 5/14 and were dismissed for 63 in 45 overs and in the second innings they were 72 for 4 with Kalana capturing 3/22 which gave him a match bag of 8 wickets for 36 runs. The lads from Colombo too didn’t find things easy and were dismissed for 100 runs in 36 overs.

Against Tissa M.V., Kalutara DSS batting first were dismissed for 156 in 57 overs. Maneendra Jayatillek­e top scored with 46 while Dhanushka Ellawala 35, Teron Baskaran 21 and Lahiru Samaranaya­ke 17 were the main scorers. In their turn Tissa M.V. were 130 for 8 at the close in 47 overs. Again the spin trio of DSS headed by Kalana Jayawarden­e (3/54), Lahiru Samaranaya­ke (2/28) and Gayathra Shehan (1/17) trouble the Kalutara lads.
