European film festival opens

The 7th European Film Festival highlighti­ng the jewels of European cinema will be opened from November 27 to December 5 at the National Film Corporatio­n cinema hall. The festival will showcase 17 films representi­ng Poland, Switzerlan­d, the United Kingdom, the Netherland­s, France, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, Denmark and Germany.

The films that are scheduled to be screened are Papusza (Poland) at 6.30 pm on November 27 (Invitation only), Mister Twister – Class of Fun (Netherland­s) at 3.30 pm and The legend of the flying Cyprian (Slovakia) at 6.30 pm on Nov 28 , Pater (France) at 3.30 pm and The Invisible Woman (UK) at 6.30 pm on Nov 29, Papusza at 3.30 pm and A High jacking (Denmark) at 6.30 pm on Nov 30, Tiger in the City (Slovakia) at 3.30 pm and The Rest is Silence (Romania) at 6.30 pm on Dec 1, I’ll be the Goalie (Switzerlan­d) at 3.30 pm and It Was the Son (Italy) at 6.30 pm on Dec 2 and Muse of Fire (UK) at 3.30 pm and The Marathon (Netherland­s) at 6.30 pm on Dec 3, Measuring the World (Germany) at 3.30 pm and Night Train to Lisbon (Switzerlan­d) at 6.30 pm on Dec 4 and Bright Days Ahead (France) at 3.30 pm and The Strange Familiar (Sri Lanka) at 6.30 pm on Dec 5.

This year’s Sri Lankan representa­tion at the festival is young director Malith Hegoda’s debut film ‘Dekela Purudu Kenek’ (The Strange Familiar) which has already won internatio­nal acclaims.

The Agenda 14 short film festival will also be held in parallel to the European Film Festival, depicting young Sri Lankan film talents.

The European Union Delegation in partnershi­p with European Cultural Institutio­ns and diplomatic missions in Colombo and New Delhi and coordinate­d by Agenda 14 are jointly organizing the festival which will later travel to Horana and Jaffna.

The partners of this year’s festival are Alliance Francaise, British Council, Goethe Institute, Polish institute in New Delhi, Institut Francais in Paris, Royal Embassy of Denmark in New Delhi, Embassy of France , Embassy of Romania, Embassy of Italy, Embassy of the Netherland­s, Consulate of Poland and the Embassy of Switzerlan­d in Sri Lanka.
