NCHS launches Academic Excellence Scholarships for Swinburne Degree Pathways

- What is NCHS Academic Excellence Scholarship Programme? What are the factors that will be considered when awarding scholarships? Are there any other financial support available for students?

Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS), a venture of Nawaloka Holdings, provides the prestigious Swinburne degree pathways for the first time in Sri Lanka. These guaranteed pathways at NCHS offer students with access to over 60 Swinburne degrees in the streams of Business, Engineering and IT.

NCHS recently announced a scholarship scheme to support aspiring students who wish to follow Swinburne pathways at the NCHS campus. In an interview conducted, Sheranga Senanayake, Head of Marketing & Business Development at NCHS, discussed about the “NCHS Academic Excellence Scholarship” programme and what the college has in- store for its students and the community.

A:The aim of this program is to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievements and to help them realize their academic and career dreams with NCHS.

Multiple scholarships ranging from 25% to 100% will be awarded for each intake under this scheme, based on academic and extra-curricular achievements. This means scholarship awards will take place three times per year, which will provide a distinctive advantage for students. The programme will enable students to successfully complete the Swinburne degree pathways at NCHS,which include the Foundation Studies and the UniLink (diploma), before progressing onto further studies at Swinburne, Australia or Malaysia. These will be awarded based on individual excellence and not the selected course of study at NCHS.

A: Scholarship applicants will be screened based on their academic achievements as well as excellence demonstrated in extra- curricular activities. Therefore, students should ensure that their applications are as comprehensive as possible with the necessary supporting documents before emailing or handing them over to us. The applicants can visit our website for more details regarding the application procedure and deadlines.

In addition, they will also be required to sit for an aptitude test and finally a personal interview with the Selection Committee before the final Scholarship recipients are selected.

A: NCHS operates with the commitment to make quality international higher education more affordable and accessible. In addition to the scholarship programmes, NCHS has also partnered with HNB and NDB banks to provide student loans at special interest rates exclusively for NCHS students.

These provide some fantastic benefits for students pursuing the Swinburne degree pathways at our campus. NDB, for example, provides flexible educational loan facilities for NCHS students with a maximum repayment period of eight years including a maximum grace period of 48 months. These types of financial assistance will provide a tremendous support for our students to complete their studies with peace of mind.

A new marking structure for the Technology stream, which included a practical component, was to be introduced this year. However, the required facilities to hold such practical components and its assessment in schools in various areas of the country, are still not in place, Pushpakumara explained.

“Hence, we have to review the decision to include the practical assessment component in the AL Technology exam. The committee to make this decision will meet soon,” he said.
