Medical Education at its best…

Global Education Centre (GEC) , the sole representative of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) in Philippines proudly congratulates its first batch of medical students who excelled at ERPM ( Act 16) examination conducted by the Sri Lanka Medical Council by passing all six subjects in their very first attempt. GEC (www. gecentre.com) regarded as pioneers in overseas medical education has enrolled hundreds of Sri Lankan students to VMUF. According to Mr. Amal Perera, CEO of GEC “this magnificent effort by the first batch of students, just returned to the island only last July took no time to sit for the Act 16 exam as they were very confident about the knowledge they gained at VMUF. This result will highly motivate the hundreds of students who are to pass-out in the next couple of years.” Added Perera.

“GEC has been pioneering overseas medical education for almost a decade and is the first education consultancy service to promote Philippine medical education for Sri Lankan students” said Mr. Perera.

“Opening the gates for medical education in Philippines was a turning point in overseas medical education for Sri Lankan students as it brought huge amounts of advantages for the students and parents. The cost of education in VMUF in Philippines is arguably the lowest fees ever offered to Sri Lankan students and yet they give the students easy payment schemes too” explained Perera. “Most of the Sri Lankan students go abroad, find the language spoken in those countries as a bar rier for their education. This is simply because they have to learn the language spoken in those countries in addition to the medical education, which is sometimes an uphill task for the stud e n t s. The Philippines which has an English literacy rate of 97% is a more convenient place for the Sri Lankan students as there is no need to learn any other language to communicate with Philippinos. Sober climate and people friendly Philippinos gives a home feeling for Sri Lankan students. Life there is very easy and comfortable as you can find all fruits and vegetables you have in Sri Lanka in and around VMUF campus.”

“VMUF (www.virgenmilagrosauniversity.com) celebrated its 57th anniversary this year and the convocation ceremony was special this year as the very first batch of Sri Lankan medical students was awarded their degrees. Education in VMUF is very popular in many countries around the globe, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Nepal and South American countries are sending hundreds of students for medical education there. This has prompted the university authorities to limit the number of enrolments for each country in the years to come. GEC which has its office in Level Six, East Lower Block of World Trade Center, Colombo encourages all the students who are seeking enrolment for the next intake, which is in February 2015 to get themselves registered early to avoid the disappointments as the numbers are limited for the said intake.”

“The office of GEC is opened for registration and enquiries from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm on weekdays and 8.30 am to 1.00 pm on Saturdays. To facilitate the parents coming from far, prior appointments can be made even on Sundays and Poya days. GEC also offers online application, but encourage the parents to visit as the parents can obtain more information by meeting me or my staff”, concluded Mr.Perera.
