Pearson Edexcel equips students for future careers with quality HND Programme

-

Pearson Edexcel has been helping students stand out from their peers, thanks to the high quality of their Higher National Diploma (HND) programme. Testament to this is the increasing number of students who opt for their BTEC HND qualifications in Sri Lanka, thus receiving a truly British qualification at a reasonable cost.

The HND qualification is recognised by many universities in the UK, and is equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelors degree. Following this, students can either elect to go overseas to complete their final year, or alternatively complete the degree in one of Edexcel’s many partner centres.

“Edexcel BTEC HND qualifications have been offered in Sri Lanka for over 12 years. Many thousands of BTEC HND students have progressed to obtain degrees from top international universities and are gainfully employed here and abroad. In fact, 100% of these graduates have secured employment in the relevant industries. Edexcel BTEC HNDs are the preferred choice of higher education pathway among students in the UK and there is a growing population of HND students in Asia, taking advantage of over 5000 qualifications on offer,” said Premila Paulraj, Regional Director for Pearson Qualifications in Asia.

The advantage of following the HND programme is that it is much more accessible and affordable. Students can receive a British qualification without having to go overseas. The HND qualification is available to any student who has completed GCE A Levels. In fact, the majority of the students enrolled in the programme are from local schools.

“Many students qualify to enter local universities, but fail to receive a spot due to the competitiveness of the programmes available. In this instance, it is still possible for a student to receive a foreign qualification at a reasonable cost, working with our partner centres,” said Suriya Bibile, Territory Manager Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal from Pearson Education.

Many students from countries like Pakistan and the Maldives travel to Sri Lanka especially to enroll in the HND programme, he added. In fact, students graduating with a Higher National Diploma will find their qualification recognised with advanced standing in the UK, Australia, Canada and even the US.

Edexcel’s HND programme also equips students for the professional circuit, offering real- life, practical course work. Students will hone their skills throughout the programme, graduating ready to participate in a competitive work environment.

The HND programme is offered in the fields of Computing and Systems Development, Business, Psychology, Engineering (in a range of sub-fields from biological to mechanical and civil engineering), hospitality and tourism and art and design, with fine arts also being introduced to the curriculum in the near future.

Edexcel’s BTEC qualifications are available across the island, thanks to their wide network of approved centres based in areas like Colombo, Kandy, Matara, Galle, Jaffna and Batticaloa. The HND programme allows students to receive vocational learning at Levels 4 and 5, with Pearson Edexcel in Sri Lanka strictly adhering to the quality framework laid down by its global counterpart.
