BRC crush Kalutara TC by innings

-

BRC recorded a crushing innings and 46 runs over Kalutara TC with a day to spare in the Emerging Trophy cricket encounter concluded at the BRC ground yesterday.

BRC having dominated the first day’s proceedings continued to torment their opponents and then put themselves in a match winning position in the second session of proceedings on day two.

The foundation for their win was laid by Rajitha Wickramaarachchi who made 112 that comprised 12 boundaries and three sixes and was supported by a half ton by Yashan Samarasinghe for BRC to make a formidable 321 on day one.

Kalutara TC having ended the opening day’s play on 11 for 1, was unable to make any impression on the second day as Indika de Saram and Navin Kavikara shared eight wickets and bowl them out for 153.

Kalutara TC made to follow on with a deficit of 168 runs fared no better and was struggling on 52 for 6 at tea before being bundled out for paltry 122 with Kavikara, de Saram and Poorna Aluthge doing the damage.

Navy SC were home for tea when they defeated Sebastianites CC by eight wickets with more than a day to spare in their Emerging Trophy cricket tie ended at De Zoysa Stadium.

Navy SC put themselves in a strong position when play ended on day one having bowled out the Sebs for a paltry 124 and ending the day on 109 for 5.

But Navy SC was unable to keep up the momentum as they were able to add only another 34 runs to their overnight score. They ended their innings making 143.

Sebastianites CC batting the second time fared miserably as they found spinner Dilanka Auwardt, who had a five wicket haul in the first innings, making a repeat performance to bundle out the Sebs for a meager 95 runs.

Dilanka’s impressive figures of 5 for 34 saw him ending the match with a match bag of 10 for 94. Navy SC set a simple run chase of 77 runs for victory reached the target with ease as they needed just 10.2 overs to record an eight-wicket win.

Amila Sandaruwan’s knock of 128 which included 16 boundaries and two sixes paved the way for Kalutara PCC, resuming from their overnight score of 332 for 5 to end their innings by making a mammoth 436 against Lankan CC who ended day two on 184 for 4 at the FTZ ground in Katunayake.

Kurunegala YCC spearheaded by Dhanushka Dharmasiri, Dharshana Mahawatte and Rajitha Ratnayake dominated proceedings against Police SC at the Police Park.

Kurunegala YCC batting first helped by half tons from Dhanushka and Dharshana end day one with a score of 295 for 6. Resuming their innings on day two they were propelled by a half ton from Rajitha which helped them end their innings making 346. Police SC in reply ended the day on 246 for 6.
