English Institute is a British Council accredited exam preparation course provider for the globally recognized certifications offered by University of Cambridge. Our class-room sessions are conducted by highly qualified teachers who are experts in providing a comprehensive insight to the English language. We offer a number of programmes to choose from, for children as young as 3 ½ years to mature adults, based on their current language ability and future aspirations. All programmes including Cambridge Young Learners English Tests through to Academic ( IELTS) and Professional programmes (BEC & TKT) are specially designed to provide the students an additional advantage when facing the high- standard examinations conducted by University of Cambridge.
Having started the English Institute in 2006 by Mr. Himantha Karunaratne (CEO) & Mrs. Amali Karunaratne ( Principal), it now accommodates 3000 students trained by 72 teachers across the three branches situated In Maharagama, Malabe & Hanwella. Given the growing demand for our programmes, we are stepping up our efforts to open up further branches around the country, making it easier for our students to receive an English education of highest standard.
We have identified that our success is as a result of the perfect ‘fit’ between the teachers, the contemporary course delivery mechanisms and the classroom set- up. Our staff members have undergone a 1 year teacher training programme (TKT) conducted by the British Council, providing them a good understanding of teaching methods and child psychology. As a result, our students benefit from high standard classroom sessions, carried out in the best suited method for each programme. Our work in English aims to bring high quality language materials to every learner and teacher who wants them.
English Institute branches comprises’ mostly of air-conditioned class rooms with comfortable seating and lighting arrangements. Our spacious study areas are equipped with all necessary accessories including audio/ visual aids, sample products, appropriate and other relevant material. Our younger learners have specifically benefited from these facilities, in better understanding the English language at an early age, through the combination of theory and practice.
We offer the below mentioned study courses for, Cambridge Young Learners English Tests.
Starters:
Age limit is between 5-7years. This is the first of three Cambridge English Young Learners tests, aimed at chil- dren in Primary and Secondary education. It is the start of a child’s language journey.
Movers:
Age limit is generally 8-10years. This is the second of three Cambridge English Young Learners tests. It is a great way to help children build on their language skills and make further progress in English.
Flyers :
Age limit is generally 10-12years. This is the highest level of three, fun filled & motivating Cambridge English Young Learners tests. It is a great way to show that children can deal with everyday written and spoken English language.
Academic/Professional Key English Test (KET):
Duration is 10 months. This is a basic level qualification that shows that students can use English to communicate in simple situations.
Preliminary English Test (PET):
Duration is one year. This is an international level high standard qualification. It shows the ability to use English skills for work, study and travel.
First Certificate in English (FCE):
This is an upper- intermediate level qualification. It proves students can use everyday writ- ten and spoken English for work and study in an advanced level.
Certificate in Advance English (CAE):
Passing CAE shows that the student is a very high achiever in English language skills. This is very useful when applying for student visa for university education in UK and Australia.
All Cambridge ESOL exams consist of four areas that test the knowledge of English, which includes Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. There are around 2,800 Cambridge ESOL exam centres’ worldwide.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
Course duration is approximately 35 hours. This is taught by a panel of highly qualified lecturers. It consists of two versions; 1. The Academic 2. General version This is the world’s most popular high stakes English language tests. It opens doors to a world of academic and professional opportunities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, USA and many other countries around the world, where English is a language in the work place or the class room.
Business English Certificate (BEC)/Certificate in Proficiency in English (CPE)
Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT):
This helps students to teach English to school children and adult learners at home or around the world. In addition to increasing the confidence as a teacher, this qualification improves employment opportunities.
These international standard courses are activity based learning, designed by the University of Cambridge UK. Examinations are conducted worldwide for English Speakers of Other Languages by the Department of ESOL at University of Cambridge, through the British Council in their respective home countries.
We bring the best of UK creative talent to Sri Lanka and engage in innovative projects. The extracurricular programmes and events have immensely supported our students in better understand the course content.
