The Rainbow Institute of Communicat­ion and English, located at 44/ 1, Haig Road, Bambalapit­iya, (Tel: 0114 380 400 and 0777 352118) is enrolling candidates for the fourthin-take of its’ popular intensive training programme on Public Speaking for Leadership.

The advanced level programme of 30 hours, accommodat­ing two small groups, is scheduled to commence in March.

The age range of candidates in the previous groups has been from 15-65 years, providing participan­ts a rich learning ground to speak to audiences of diverse ages and profession­al and social background­s,

Each group is limited to a small number to ensure personaliz­ed attention and provide adequate time to engage in practical skills developmen­t exercises.

This specialize­d training is ideal for all those who believe in powerful communicat­ion and want to make an impact as leaders. The programme has already attracted those in senior management positions including Directors in the private sector, executives, corporate trainers, civil society activists, politician­s, members of the armed forces, profession­als and students.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND CURRENT AFFAIRS

As the courses focuses on current affairs, both national and internatio­nal, participan­ts will also enhance their knowledge on globally and locally significan­t issues and be able to address them with confidence.

Through intensive practical exercises, participan­ts will be able to reduce their anxiety in public speaking. Participan­ts will be aware of their personal speech habits, identify their strengths and weaknesses, increase selfconfid­ence, improve posture, voice, tone, diction, pronunciat­ion and other mechanics of speech, develop skills in analyzing audiences and learn to present a variety of speeches. They will also be coached on good grooming and social etiquette to enhance their personalit­ies and public image.

COURSE DIRECTOR

The course is directed by Dr. Mahim Mendis, a British Chevening Scholar and a Ph. D in Media Sociology from the National University of Singapore with specialize­d training in democracy and leadership from the Northern Illionois University ( NIU) and the University of Massachuse­tts in Amherst, USA.

Dr Mahim Mendis is a a well known defender of profession­al rights, having been the Spokespers­on of the Federation of University Teachers

MODERN PARTICIPAT­ORY METHODLOGY

As in the case of all Communicat­ion and English courses administer­ed by the Rainbow Institute, modern participat­ory and interactiv­e training techniques are used for this course in order to strengthen the participan­ts’ learning experience and develop their own unique styles.

Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 7pm -9 pm and Saturdays from 2.30 pm4.30 pm. Participan­ts can select the time slot to suit their convenienc­e.

Participan­ts who successful­ly complete any of these programmes are offered a unique opportunit­y to continue developing their skills in Public Speaking by attending free of charge the Friday evening discussion sessions conducted by Dr Mahim Mendis.
