Maliyadeva Girls’ College is a significant National Schools in Sri Lanka which has always been blessed by Lord Buddha. The school is situated on the top of Ethugala in the heart of Kurunegala city. It is the foremost school in the area which brings glory not only through education but also through co-curricular activities. The convenient location of the college on the Colombo - Kurunegala main road, makes the school easily accessible for everybody in the area. It is one of the reasons for the school to have optimum human resources, making it ideally suitable for an effective learning-teaching process.

Great honour should be bestowed to the pioneer principal the late Mrs. C. V. E. Fernando for initiating the college as the Senior Government Girls’ College on July 1, 1946 with the contribution of two assistant teachers and a privileged lot of 69 students. At present, Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya is on its way to a glorious era, being enlisted as the best Buddhist Girls’ College in the Kurunegala district, under the competent leadership of the principal Soma Rathnayaka.

Today the classes are conducted from Grade 1 to 13 sheltering about 4000 students who learn under the proper guidance of 165 talented and enthusiastic teachers.
