Eagle Logistics boosted by Himal Fonseka’s 125 n.o

Opening batsman, Himal Fonseka carried his bat to score a sparkling 125 not out in 63 balls inclusive of 7 sixes and an equal number of fours to propel Eagle Logistics to a high flying seven wickets win over MAS Active ‘B’, in the ongoing 12th David Pieris Group of Companies, ‘DPGC’ Challenge Trophy, MCA ‘E’ division 30-Over League Tournament, continued last Saturday.

Others who hogged the limelight were Eric Upashantha from Union Assurance (74 runs in 43 balls inclusive of 8 sixes and 2 fours Vs. Ceylon Tobacco Co.), Migara Pandithara­tne from Emerchemie NB (64 not out in 70 balls, inclusive of 2 sixes and 5 boundaries Vs. Regnis Lanka), Manoj Fernando from MAS Active ‘B’ (59 not out in 43 balls, inclusive of 2 sixes and 5 fours Vs. Eagle Logistics ); Nalin Wijesinghe from Union Assurance (52 in 56 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours Vs. Ceylon Tobacco) and Mahesh de Alwis from Union Assurance (4-1-10-4 Vs. Ceylon Tobacco).

Saturday’s wins carried Eagle Logistics to top of Group ‘A’”, Citizens Devp. Bank to top of Group ‘B’, Union Assurance (unbeaten) to top of Group ‘C’, MAS Silueta to 2nd place in Group ‘D’, EWIS (unbeaten) to top of Group ‘E’ and Emerchemie NB (unbeaten) to top of Group ‘F’”.

Thus, the league stage of the tournament came to a close after 102 matches; Pre-quarter finals with the top 16 teams from the 6 groups will be worked off this weekend.

QP Employment making their debut in Mercantile Cricket, got off to memorable start with a hardfought 8 runs win over experience­d, Lankem Ceylon in the MCA ‘F’ division 25 Over League Tournament, which got off to a start last Saturday.The match winners for QP Employment were middle order batsman M. Faisal, who top scored for them with a solid half century (52 in 40 balls, inclusive of 4 sixes and 3 fours) and medium pacer, M. Askar, who made early in roads into the Lankem batting, finishing with impressive figures of 3/9 in 4 overs.

Others who took the spot light were: Shehan Silva from Nation Krishantha Aruna from Hirdaraman­i Group (84 not out in 50 balls, inclusive of 2 sixes and 15 fours Vs. Copal Amba), Faiz Mohamed from EB Creasey (70 in 37 balls, inclusive of half a dozen sixes and 5 fours Vs. Nation Lanka Finance), Ishan Galagoda from Citi Bank NA (70 in 76 balls, inclusive of a six and 10 fours Vs. Gummi Lanka). Asiri Ariyaratne from Hayleys Group (63 in 39 balls, inclusive of 5 sixes and 4 fours Vs. Asiri Hospitals), Heshan Wickramasu­riya from Hayleys Group (57 in 51 balls, inclusive of a six and 6 fours Vs. Asiri Hospitals), Milzer Matheen from HSBC ‘C’ (52 in 32 balls, inclusive of 3 sixes and 6 fours Vs. CIC), Malik Perera from United Tractors (52 in 43 balls, inclusive of 10 fours Vs. Bharti Airtel) and Chanaka Silva from Toll Global (5 for 28 in 5 overs Vs. Heshan Flexe)

The top team score came for Hayleys Group RC - 225 for 6 in 25 Overs Vs. Asiri Hospitals and the lowest total was by Asiri Hospitals - 108 for 7 in 25 overs Vs. Hayleys Group.

The tournament will be continued this week-end with a card of 16 matches.
