-

In keeping with its continuous commitment of a 'Varna Pooja' to places of religious worship in Sri Lanka, Lankem Paints Ltd, manufacturers and marketers of Robbialac Paints, recently donated a large consignment of paints and wood coatings for use at the Gangaramaya Temple and Seemamalakaya in Colombo in time for the National Vesak Festival 2015.

Director Lankem Ceylon PLC Ruwan T. Weerasinghe said, "Colombo's Vesak Lantern Competition organised jointly by the Gangaramaya and 'Temple Trees' attracts thousands of devotees and visitors each night. We thus considered it a privilege and honour to paint the Gangaramaya Temple and Seemamalakaya for the National Vesak Festival. Hence our gift of more than 300 litres comprising enamel and emulsion paints in different colours, varnishes, thinner and wood primers as part of this Varna Pooja"

Commenting on this gesture, Chief Prelate of the Gangaramaya, the Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera (Podi Hamuduruwo) said' "I'd like to thank Lankem Paints for this meritorious act. They responded to our request instantly and without expecting anything in return. This is commendable and embodies the true Buddhist spirit of 'dana' or 'giving".

Lankem first began its Varna Pooja endeavour ten years ago with the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and goes on record as being the first individual organisation to undertake an endeavour of this nature. "The Dalada Maligawa is the one of the most sacred and venerated symbols of Buddhist world. It has been our deep honour and privilege to paint the entire complex for ten years in a row ahead of the Esala Perahera", Weerasinghe said.
