Gateway Graduat e School commenced a new British Masters in Education that is delivered by the fly- in faculty of t he Unive r s i t y of N o t t i n g h a m , M a l ay s i a Campus ( UNMC). The course, offered in Sri Lanka for the very first time, is conducted on a part time basis over 18 - 24 months. All teaching is carried out by the UNMC faculty on a face- to- face basis at the Gateway Graduate School during their visits to Sri Lanka during school vacations in April, August and December.

The first batch of candidates included both local and international teachers. The majority of the international candidates included teachers from the Maldives. Dr. Lucy Bailey, Assistant Professor, School of Education of the UNMC who was present in Sri Lanka for the inauguration, assisted the participants in the enrollment process. Following their enrolment, students have free global access to all Nottingham University libraries, online resources and the Virtual learning environment.

The first module - ‘ Leading Learning’ was conducted by D r. M a r i a Kaparou, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at UNMC. During her stay, Dr. Kaparou assisted the students with tutorials on a one to one basis in addition to providing a series of lectures. The module is designed to meet the interests and requirements of leaders at all levels who aspire to develop and improve their leadership and management practices. The classes were held at the Gateway Graduate School, Colombo for a period of one week during the April school holidays.

Students who complete the Edexcel Professional Diploma in Teaching and the Edexcel Professional Diploma in Advanced Teaching are eligible to enrol in the Masters programme. These Diplomas can be completed at the Gateway Graduate Schools in Colombo and Kandy over 2 years. The MA in Education is also open to graduates who do not have a teaching qualification enabling them to add value to themselves by obtaining a world renowned Masters t e a ch i n g q u a l i f i c at i o n . Gateway’s partnership with UNMC enables candidates to complete the MA in Education in Sri Lanka at a fraction of the cost of studying overseas. The successful graduates will be invited by UNMC to attend their graduation ceremony in Malaysia. University of Nottingham is ranked among the top 10 UK universities and within the top 1% of all universities worldwide.

Gateway has signed up with NDB Bank to provide an exciting new student loan scheme that would ease the burden of students and parents. The low interest scheme is designed in a way where the students are required to pay interest only during the study period and pay back the capital once qualified when they could easily find employment. With a total payback period of 8 years the loan scheme is most attractive. This very first intake consisted of students who were assisted by the NDB Bank.
