Fine record by CCC School of Cricket Under-13 team in India

An all-round combinatio­n of Under 13 cricketers from the CCC Schools of Cricket left on a tour to India for the 18th occasion and returned to the island with a fine record of nine wins out of 11 matches with one lose and a nodecision.

Led by Royalist Thevindu Senaratne this outfit with a combinatio­n of a strong bowling attack never allowed any opponent cross the 150 mark and in batting they scored three times over 200 runs and never being all out except the solitary match they lost in the hands of S. Joseph’s High School.

Deputy skipper Dineth Jayakody, a Josephian had fruitful tour scoring two unbeaten centuries and a 70 n.o. to aggregate 404 runs with an average of 80.8 was adjudged the Best Batsman. Dunil Ranasinghe won the bowling honours for being the highest wicket taker on the tour while the Best All-rounders award went to Monil Silva from Wattala Lyceum, another Lyceumite Piriyan Tiruchelva­m was selected the Most Promising Player of the tour. Another two youngsters to perform well were Yasas Abeysekera and Pavan Ratnayake. The other members of the touring party were Dewmina Kankanamag­e, Kavindu Pathirana, Prabhasara Herath. Hirusha Jayasooriy­a (w/k), Dan Vaz, Nimneth Navaratne and Thiven Punchihewa.
