Trinity’s Shanogeeth slams record knock of 270

Trinity’s Shanogeeth Shanmugana­than slammed 270 against Sri Rahula Katugastot­a in their Under-17 Division I cricket tournament encounter played at Asgiriya which paved the way for Trinity to record a massive 371 runs win.

The left-handed batsman’s unbeaten knock made in just 152 balls comprised 32 boundaries and 16 sixes. He was involved in two fruitful partnershi­ps first of 114 runs for the fifth wicket with Trevon Percivel and the other of an unbroken 114 runs stand for the sixth wicket with Poorna Wanasekera which helped Trinity amass a record score of 404 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs.

Later the left-arm spin and pace combinatio­n of Rashmika Dilshan and Trevon Percivel along with Mohamed Shohib who together shared nine wickets combined to bundle out their opponents for a meager score of just 33 runs.

According to officials of the SLSCA the knock of 270 by Shanogeeth is a record in the Under-17 Division I tournament with previous best being a 208 made by Avishka Fernando of St. Sebastian’s.

The SLSCA official was unable to confirm the massive score of 404 as the highest of the tournament but said it could most probably be a record.

Maris Stella taking first lease of the wicket made a formidable score of 319 for 9 and then bowled out their opponents for a low score of 131.

An allround performanc­e by Thanuka Dabare enabled Lumbini MV coast to an easy ten wicket win against Sri Sumangala Panadura in the Under-17 cricket match played at the BRC ground. Lumbini MV after bowling out the Sumangalia­ns for just 83 runs reached the target in the 11th over.

A knock of 91 by Imesh Viranga laid the foundation for Thurstan to defeat De La Salle Mutwal by 166 runs in the Under 17 cricket encounter played at Thurstan ground.

A hurricane unbeaten knock of 125 in just 58 balls by all rounder Randeera Ranasinghe helped St. Anne's College Kurunegala to an easy 182 run victory over Anuradhapu­ra Central College in their All-Island Inter-School Under-17 Division I cricket tournamnt match played at Anuradhapu­ra.

Ranasinghe smashed 3 sixes and 14 fours for his 58 ball knock and St. Anne's made 281 for 6 in their 46 overs after put in to bat by their opposition. The match was reduced to a 46 over game after rain delayed the start.

In reply Anuradhapu­ra Central made only 99 in 37.1 overs. Randeera Ranasinghe continued his good performanc­es by capturing 4 for 12 from 7.1 overs. (Randeera Ranasinghe 125 n.o, Nilesh Lakshan 44, Dineth Chandimal 42)
