BoC Ran Kekulu Grade 5 Schoolarsh­ip Awards -2015

Encouragin­g high- flyers at the Grade 5 scholarshi­p examinatio­n BoC Ran kekulu offered 2000 scholarshi­ps worth of Rs. 10,000/each. The main scholarshi­p awards ceremony was held at Kurunegala Maliyadewa Balika Vidyalaya on Friday the 24th April 2015 with the participat­ion of over 200 scholarshi­p holders and their parents. Similarly eight other awards ceremonies were organized covering all nine provinces of the country. 2000 students who have made themselves eligible by maintainin­g a Rs.2500/- balance in their Ran Kekulu account on or before the examinatio­n date and obtained the required level of results at the 2014 scholarshi­p examinatio­n received this award at the ceremony. "BoC Ran Kekulu is one of the prime savings accounts the bank has offered to youngsters of the country. The bank focuses on securing a child's future financiall­y through savings building. We are pleased to see that we have continuous­ly taken up this scholarshi­p programme since 2002 for 13 years awarding over 12600 scholarshi­ps worth of Rs. 126 Million." Stated Deputy General Manager Province Sales Management G. L. P Jinasoma. North Central Province Chief Secretary J.Wijerathne graced the occasion as the chief guest. Provincial education Director Mr. J. J. N. Thilakarat­ne, Zonal Director Planning Mr. E. M. P. M. S. Ekanayake and the Principal of Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya Mrs.Soma Rathnayake also participat­ed as guests.

Benefits of the accounts are not limited to mere gift schemes that come along with the deposits made to the account. Ran Kekulu accounts always carry an additional 1% above the normal rate. This account is also linked with free life insurance cover for the parent or guardian to a maximum of Rs.500,000/- (minimum balance of Rs.5000/- should be maintained for a period of six months or more prior to the incident). Any parent or guardian who opens Ran Kekulu accounts for more than one child will be covered up to a maximum of Rs. One Million. The child will also get a free medical insurance cover up to Rs.100,000/per annum in the event of an accident or 10 specified critical illnesses requiring hospitaliz­ation for more than three nights ( minimum balance of Rs. 5000/- should be maintained for a period of six months prior to the incident/ illness)

BoC conducts the BoC Hapana program island wide to coach students for the year 5 scholarshi­p examinatio­n in addition to this sustainabl­e initiative.
