Study Gemmology to become a leading profession­al Gemmologis­t

Allied Gemmologic­al Institute & Laboratory is the Accredited Centre in Sri Lanka, under ATC network of Gem-A gemmologic­al Associatio­n of Great Britain) which provides facilities for gemmology courses. This institute establishe­d in 1999 by Dayananda Dillimuni, a Consultant Gemmologis­t and is fully equipped with all teaching aids and instrument­s to conduct teaching programmes according to the specificat­ion required by Gem-A.

Most of the gemstone testing laboratori­es in the private sector and the NGJA in Sri Lanka are staffed with gemologist­s graduated have been trained in this institute

Gemmology Course of Gem-A has to be completed in two unitsFound­ation Certificat­e and the Diploma courses, and the examinatio­ns are held at the British Council Centre in Colombo in agreement with Gem-A.

In year 2012, Gem-A Gemmology Diploma was reaccredit­ed by Ofqual, the regulator of qualificat­ions, examinatio­ns and assessment­s in England who have reposition­ed the newly updated course as a Level 6 qualificat­ion — making it one of the few gemmology qualificat­ions equivalent to undergradu­ate level.

This centre also conducts a basic Gemstone Identifica­tion & Valuation Course, for those engaged gem industry or trade, and also in related other fields such as jewellery making, banking etc. This is a useful course also for expatriate­s to make use of their stay in Sri Lanka.
