She’s the daughter of America’s most famous political power couple, but Chelsea Clinton appears to be emerging as a public figure on her own.

Chelsea, 35, delivered a keynote speech at the Einstein Legacy Awards in Toronto, Canada, yesterday, discussing education and the work of her family’s charity.

The mother-of-one wore a cap sleeved plum- coloured dress, accessorised with chain necklaces to give her address at the event that honoured Albert Einstein and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

While her mother Hillary Clinton is the talk of the US political world as she announces her bid for president, Chelsea is now making a name for herself too.

Married to husband of five years, Marc Mezvinksy, Chelsea is taking a larger role in the Clinton Foundation and speaking publicly about social and political issues.

She addressed the audience at the event hosted by the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, held on the centennial of Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.

The gala dinner at Toronto’s Liberty Grand hotel awarded individuals and families who have ‘demonstrated values, vision, social responsibility and a passion for education.’

Guest speaker Chelsea talked about education, shared personal stories and revealed the effect of having a daughter, eight-month old Charlotte.

She said: ‘Being the mother of a daughter made me care much more about the things I already cared about.’

One of the attendees, Melissa Grelo, co-Host of Canadian show The Social, tweeted: ‘Just met @ ChelseaClinton. What an honour! We talked about our daughters and Kate naming her princess Charlotte too! #Bucketlist’

Guests described her speech as ‘poised’ as she talked about ‘family and history’ at the dinner.

Chelsea, who grew up in the White House when her father became president for two terms in 1993 when she was just 12, may be contemplating a return to America’s first home.

There is now talk that if her mother be elected president, Chelsea would take on the First Lady role.

C-SPAN co-CEO Susan Swain said: ‘There is a social function to the first lady’s role, and that will not go away.’

She added that ‘ diplomacy’ is conducted through social settings, ‘ and it is important to have somebody in that role.’

Several first daughters have filled the role of hostess in place of their mothers throughout American history, including Woodrow Wilson’s daughter Margaret who took the role of first lady in 1915 after her mother died.
