LCDVS Annual Awards Day a huge success

-

Ladies’ College Department of Vocational Studies held their annual Awards Day on Saturday, 21st March 2015, at the Ladies’ College Hall under the patronage of the Chief Guest, the Archdeacon of Colombo, Venerable Perry Brohier.

All students who successfully concluded their courses received awards and certificates in a ceremony that took place with traditions that are customary to Ladies’ College. Parents and relatives of these students were part of the large gathering. Among them were the members of the Academic Staff, members of the Management Committee and sponsors of awards. The highlight of the day was a song received and being friends forever.

The Ladies’ College Department of Vocational Studies, popularly known as LCDVS, is registered as an Educational Institution with the Tertiary Vocational Education Commission. Courses are designed to meet the needs of young adults who do not wish to proceed with higher education at the universities. LCDVS makes it possible for students to acquire the skills necessary to pursue a vocation by offering such courses as Teacher Training, Secretarial skills, Language Acquisition, Special Needs Education and Child Psychology among others.

The Principal, Mrs. Eesha Speldewinde drew attention to this in her welcome address, stressing that the LCDVS, which was heading towards a new era under a new management, would look into the possibility of conducting more courses, espe- cially those which culminate in a degree.

In his speech, Rev. Perry Brohier emphasized the importance of ensuring a high standard of education to suit the current employment needs as opposed to focusing on filling classrooms. This is exactly in line with the ethos of LCDVS, which offers a curriculum of quality with courses which are tailor-made to suit the working environment of students.
