How did they see the Test series

Nabeel Faizer (Development Marketer for MAS Holding)

Sri Lanka did seem to have that right combination. Batting looked good so no complains there. Bowling needs some experience may be Rangana Herath could be drafted in for a few Tests if he is fit against India. However SL should look to tighten their screws and not be complacent right throughout all 15 sessions of the game

Dilshi Priyangika (Member of the women’s Kuwait cricket team)

Yes true, that we are short of two amazing players, but even with less options of team players, Sri Lanka is doing well. What we need is to excel in team performance as one and not their individual games. There is a slight observation on the batting order, which is unbalanced. Analysis needs to be done on the strong points of players and reassembling of the batting order should be made. I believe we need to give more attentions to allrounders within our upcoming matches. Sri Lanka lost the three-match Test series 2-1 against Pakistan last week. With the Indian team set to tour Sri Lanka for a similar series, we asked a few individuals if Sri Lanka have the right combination. Will Sri Lanka be able to withstand India in August, after coming out fresh from an unexpected 2-1 defeat at hands of Pakistan.

With our available resources, the team was alright. We have invested a lot of time and money on Lahiru Thirimanne, so dropping him at this transition period may not be the right way to go. Persist with Upul Tharanga and Jehan Mubarak for the foreseeable future.

With Kumar Sangakkara picking and choosing matches to play, it seems the batting isn't too much of a concern. However given how ineffective the bowling was in the final Pakistan Test match, drafting in an extra spinner at the expense of a batsman may be the way to go.

Kavindu Indatissa (University student)

I just feel that after Rangana Herath, we wouldn't really have a spin bowler who could really disturb the batsmen. Tharindu Kaushal seems to be showing some promise as a spinner but I feel that Dilruwan Perera may be the ideal bowling partner for him smile emoticon and also, he could score vital runs if he bats in the middle-lower order.

Alqaaf Hameen (Banker)

With three giants of the game stepping out of the limelight of Sri Lankan cricket, these are testing times for the Island nation. Although the country has tried various numbers of combinations in the recent times, we are yet to identify the best combination to take the field. Youngsters have been promising in the past, but consistency has been a rare privilege. Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal, the two most promising prospects are long way from matching the Kumar Sangakkaras and Mahela Jayawardene. Thus the greats have clawed their way up over a period of time, and it is unfair to expect them. Youngsters should step into their boots overnight. Unlike the first Test, Sri Lanka played well in the final two Tests. Tharindu Kaushal proved his metal yet again on a quick track, with quicks taking charge of the game early on. For a day and a half, we were the favourites to win the game, until superb batting display by an experienced veteran took the game away from us. Therefore amidst the series loss, there are lots of positives we could take away. Angelo has been in the form of his life, Chandimal chipping in with an aggressive knock, Mubarak getting some runs under his belt, Prasad, Pradeep and Kaushal have given their very best. With so many prospects, the future of Sri Lankan cricket is not too gloomy. We will have to get through these testing phase.
