Art Exhibition at D.S. Senanayake College

-

D. S. Senanayake College Colombo 07 conducted their annual Art exhibition at the primary division on the 9th July 2015. The chief guest at the occasion was Hon.Rosy Senanayake. The principal thanked the chief guest for her gracious presence despite the busy schedule.

The principal speaking at the occasion stated that Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items often with symbolic significance in a way that influence and affects one or more of the senses.

It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, Creations, and models of expressions, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture and painting. Art is a part of aesthetic studies and the intention is to stimulate thoughts and emotions. Art enriches childrens lives.

Consider the world without Art what would be the impact on the lack of graphics on the children’s favourite video game. Art makes the children more thoughtful and develops analytical skills.

Art is something that is both functional and aesthetic pleasing to the eyes of the children. Creating Art expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them, and provide a new set of skills for self expression and communication. Art not only develops analytical skills but also cultivates important skills that benefit a childs self development. When a child draws a picture, paints a por- trait, that child is beginning to communicate visually.

Children express themselves through art on a fundamental level, sometime their artwork is the manifestation of that expression, but more often the physical process of creating is the expression. Art is one area where children and their creativity have free reign.

The Deputy Principal Mrs. Indika liyanage , a highly refined cultured lady who holds the best of virtues in the highest order has set an example to the other schools the manner in which an exhibition has to be conducted. All children in the primary participated and certificates and medals were awarded by the chief guest Hon.Rosy senanayake.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs Lakshi wickramadara and congratulated the children whose artwork is on display for their effort and creation. She thanked the parents and members of the staff for extending their co- operation to make this event a great success. A special thanks to the sponsor of the event Ceylon Pencil Co (Pvt) Ltd.
