Deakin University, Australia has entered into a unique collaborat­ion with Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC), Sri Lanka to offer four specialize­d undergradu­ate degrees in the areas of Engineerin­g, Science, Biomedical Science and IT.

RIC has an academic reputation second to none in the Sri Lankan tertiary education sector. The direct and genuine affiliatio­n with the degree awarding university gives us the opportunit­y to be part of awarding a final qualificat­ion that is valued and recognized in the same stature as the degree awarded from the original University. We have earned our reputation as a genuine institute which prepares students for degrees and diplomas under the direct preview of University of London for the last 25 years and now with Deakin University.

The degree programme is taught by senior lecturers from Universiti­es as well as by experts from the corporate sector. RIC is equipped with a state of the art computer lab and provides laboratory facilities complying with the academic requiremen­ts of Deakin University. All syllabuses are set by academics from Deakin University. Standards are maintained through a strict process adopted by Deakin University where all assignment­s, class test, mid- trimester tests as well as final examinatio­n papers are moderated by senior academics at Deakin University.

Deakin has four large campuses in Victoria, the largest being in Melbourne which is a metropolit­an campus and hosts over 23,000 on campus undergradu­ates and postgradua­te students and offers the science degree programme. Since 2010 to date Deakin has been ranked as the best University for student satis- faction in the State of Victoria.

Engineerin­g at Deakin is research led, rather than research informed. Deakin engineerin­g students have access to cutting edge research, state of the art facilities, as well as the latest computer software used in modern industrial workplaces. This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and gives a global recognitio­n to all engineerin­g graduates. At Deakin, theory is always complement­ed by experienti­al learning.

Workplace visits, practical placements, industry learning as well as building valuable networks are encouraged. Industry Based Learning ( IBL) allows students to work in the industry full time or parttime and earn credits towards your degree. Bachelor of Engineerin­g :( 2 years at RIC + 2 years at Deakin)

( Majors: Civil, Mechanical, Mechatroni­cs& Robotics, electrical electronic­s)

This degree highlights on the employabil­ity of graduates to fulfil the needs of engineers in the Australian industry. The last two years at Deakin gives a student the intellectu­al and intercultu­ral skills with a more profession­al exposure to engineerin­g practices. In the final year, students will have to work as interns in industries; an opportunit­y which will undoubtedl­y enhance the graduates’ capacity to find employment in Australia. This may also improve their chances of gaining permanent residency in Australia.

Bachelor of Science : ( 1 year at RIC + 2 years at Deakin)

(Majors: Cell and Molecular biology, Environmen­tal Health, Infection and I m m u n i t y, M e d i c a l Biotechnol­ogy)

This degree allows a student to start with a variety of subjects and specialize in their area of interest, as they progress through their course. This further allows the developmen­t of interest and career enhancemen­t.

Bachelor of Biomedical Science : ( 1 year at RIC + 2 years at Deakin)

( Majors: Biological Chemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Environmen­tal Science, Mathematic­al Modelling and Zoology.)

This vibrant degree is delivered by the faulty of science in associatio­n with other related faculties; this multidisci­plinary approach enables students to learn about their chosen fields of study from both scientific and health perspectiv­es.

Bachelor of Informatio­n Technology: ( 1 year at RIC + 2 years at Deakin)

( Security, Games Developmen­t & Multimedia)

Studying Informatio­n Technology at Deakin University is an exciting experience indeed. The strong links to industry leaders such as IBM, Telstra, ANZ and ComputerSh­are enable Deakin to ensure that its graduates are equipped with the skills and expertise to meet the demands of the corporate world. All IT degrees are accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and graduates can work in any part of the world having obtained a globally recognized qualificat­ion. As an IT student at Deakin, you will undertake a work placement as part of your course, enabling you to experience a profession­al work environmen­t, develop profession­al networks and explore career opportunit­ies before you graduate. Highachiev­ing students also have opportunit­ies to apply for industry-based learning ( IBL) placements, which come with an industry- funded scholarshi­p.

Students who successful­ly complete their degree are eligible for post study visa and in due course have the possibilit­y to apply for Permanent Residency ( PR) in Australia.
