Royal Under-15 cager champs

Royal College beat Vidura College by 44-42 in a nail biting basketball game played between the Under-15 teams of the two schools annually for the third year running. The match was played at the Royal College Basketball Court in Reid Avenue in front of a large gathering of players, students, parents and supporters of both teams.

Right from the beginning the game got off to a high pace and Vidura was dominating play with the score at 16-8 after the first quarter. In the second quarter again Vidura led 25-16 while the third half finished at 35-30 in favour of the visitors.

Both sides played speedy and constructi­ve basketball but Royal made a sudden rise to make the fourth quarter a thriller. The game went on as a dig dong battle and it was eventually Royal who emerged victo- rious against Vidura as the game came to a nail biting finish by 44-42.

Pavan Ramanayake played outstandin­g game for Royal while for Vidura Manith Balasuriya shone above the rest. Others who played well for Vidura are Deelaka Ukwattta, Kaushal Perera and Sehan Dissanayak­e. Pavan took away the Best Allround Player for Royal while from the Vidura side the award went to Sehan.

Besides the main encounter two side games were played both schools displayed good skills. The Under-14 game finished in a thriller with Royal and Vidura scoring 10 points each. Royal took major honours of the Under-13 game by overcoming Vidura. At the conclusion of the game trophies and certificat­es were awarded by Upali de Silva, the Manager of Sport for Vidura College.
