Established in 1998, the Department of Management of Technology ( MOT) at the University of Moratuwa is offering Manag ement, Economics, Technology Management, and Entrepreneurship subjects for the BSc in Engineering Degree programme of the Faculty of Engineering. The department has taken steps to enhance entrepreneurial skills among the underg raduat e s of Faculty of Engineering by offering a Minor Degree in Entrepreneurship since 2011. This programme encourages undergraduates to get exposed to numerous opportunities to venture into. The key objective of this programme is to develop job creators rather than job seekers.

The Department commenced offering masters level programmes in 2001 with MBA in Management of Technology, enrolling about 50 students per batch. This is in addition to MSc, MPhil and PhD degree programmes offered by the department.

Commencing from 2016, the Department will be offering an MBA programme in Entrepreneurship, the first of its kind to be offered in Sri Lanka. The MBA in Entrepreneurship will be a two year part time degree programme. This newest addition is expected to be academically and practically helpful to the industrialists, state sector and private sector executives.

The MBA in Entrepreneurship is tailored to suit both business starters and future business leaders and as such, it will educate numerous aspects of entrepreneurship catering to the demand for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. The lecturers at the Department are hopeful that the programme would contribute, on one hand, towards development of entrepreneurs with industrial knowledge as well as technological knowledge who could venture successful busi- nesses generating income and creating job opportunities to the public. On the other hand, the MBA in Entrepreneurship programme will contribute to the corporate and state sectors by promoting entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship in the respective organizational contexts.

The programme offers modules in three core areas, i.e. Compulsory Management, Compulsory Entrepreneurship and Compulsory Technology Management in addition to several elective modules. The programme is designed to be conducted in 6 semesters with semester five and six dedicated to the Research Project. The programme will include specialized course modules such as Technology Commercialization, New Venture Creation, Venture Financing, Risk Management, Management Decision Making, Business Economics and Strategic Management.

Applications are now called for enrolment and the deadline will be the 10th of August 2015. The Department is expecting to commence the first batch with a maximum of about 50 students in January 2016. The interested parties can enquire further regarding the programme by visiting the university website ( http:// www.mot.mrt.ac.lk/index.php/ programmes/96 ) or calling the Department (0112 640433).
