“Start Your Business” workshop for Peradeniya University’s final year undergraduates
The Alumni Association of University of Peradeniya (AAUP) held a “Start Your Business” workshop for Agriculture and Arts Faculty undergraduates to help them lay a foundation to their dreams of launching their own businesses.
The 5- day workshop was held this month, at the University of Peradeniya where 18 final year undergraduates from the 2 Faculties participated. It was conducted by International Labour Organisation (ILO)-qualified trainers from the Dept of Rural Industries & Enterprise Development of the Central Province.
Alumni of the University, Priyanka Wijetunga, Chief Facilitator, S. Kumara and D. Dissanyake were the trainers.
“The programme included sessions on the Relationship between Business Plan and Type of Business, Marketing, Elements of Labour Recruitment, Costing, Financial Planning, Capital Generation Source and Preparation of a Business Plan,” said Prof. Savitri Kumar of the AAUP. She added that the participants were presented with a Training Manual and a Business Plan provided by the ILOSIYB Association of Sri Lanka.
The undergraduates also participated in interactive business games to develop

leadership skills and generate team spirit, which are vital components in the economic world.
Pentium 2000 Managing Director and Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year 2012, Jagath Dissanayake made a presentation on ‘Identification of a business idea and marketable products, problems encountered, and developing the ability to analyse and arrive at suitable solutions to surmount them’.
The programme, held at the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya, was coordinated by the AAUP and sponsored by Commercial Credit & Finance PLC and D. Samson Industries (Pvt) Ltd.
