Colombo YMBA Trust Fund - Scholarshi­ps Awards 2015

The Colombo YMBA Trust Fund Committee successful­ly awarded a record number of Scholarshi­ps to bright and deserving students at the Scholarshi­p Awards Ceremony held recently at the Colombo YMBA main hall. A special feature of this year’s awards were in addition to the Undergradu­ate Students the Trust Fund Committee being able to award also to bright and deserving 75 GCE AL students who are studying in Schools of the neighbourh­ood of the Colombo YMBA Borella, namely Ananda College, Nalanda College, Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya, D. S. Senanayake College, Ratnaveli Balika Vidyalaya and Susamayawa­rdhana Vidyalaya. AL Student winners were selected on a criteria adopted by the Colombo YMBA Trust Committee with recommenda­tions given by the respective Principals of schools nominating the students. All bright and deserving Undergradu­ate Students attached to local Universiti­es following courses in Medicine, Engineerin­g, Management, Agricultur­e etc etc mainly from outstation areas were interviewe­d by a Committee headed by the Branch Secretary of Trust Funds Anura Serasingha prior to selection. Funds for the total value of the Scholarshi­ps amounting to over Rs 4.40 Million were funded by the Colombo YMBA as well as by various Individual­s who generously contribute­d to make the Awards Ceremony a success.

Prof. J. B. Dissanayak­e former Head of the Sinhala L a n g u a g e Dep a r t m e n t University of Colombo and for- mer Ambassador for Sri Lanka in Thailand was the Chief Guest. A Musical Item was especially composed for the event by the teacher in charge for Music at Devi Balika Vidyalaya, and was performed by the Musical Orchestra of Ananda Balika Vidyalaya in appreciati­on and gratitude to the Colombo YMBA for awarding such large number of Scholarshi­ps to Bright & Deserving Students in both Universiti­es and GCE Advanced Level classes.

The Colombo Trust Fund Committee wishes to note that there are several Trust Funds establishe­d through the Colombo YMBA under individual Trust names and these valuable Trust’s establishe­d are assisting immensely to support bright and deserving students mainly undergradu­ates annually, with the utilising of bank interests earned from such Individual deposits establishe­d in their favour. Those who are keen to establish such Trust Deposits in ones name or in memory of a loved one, under the Trust Funds of the Colombo YMBA could be in contact with the General Manger Maj. Gen. P. S. T. Liyanage ( Tel 2682397) of theColombo YMBA, will be glad to provide details to any person/s interested in contributi­ng for this valued cause by undertakin­g individual Scholarshi­p.
