Obtain a Masters Qualificat­ion in Logistics and Supply Chain from Sheffield Hallam University, UK

Admissions are currently open for MSc in Logistics and S u p p l y Chain Management from the prestigiou­s Sheffield Hallam University ( SHU) UK conducted at SLIIT. Students interested in obtaining a distinguis­hed British qualificat­ion can apply before the 24th of August. Classes will commence on the 26th of September.

Students can complete the MSc in just one year on the fast track or in two years on the slow track. During the period of study, students have two intermedia­te exit points; a postgradua­te certificat­e after 60 credits or a postgradua­te diploma after 120 credits. Upon completion of 180 credits the student will be conferred with the Masters Degree.

Potential candidates are expected to have an honours degree in Science, Engineerin­g, Business, Management or IT. Candidates with suitable profession­al qualificat­ions in a field appropriat­e to Engineerin­g, Management or Supply Chain Management, or a degree in any discipline plus at least one year of industrial experience in a responsibl­e position at a related organizati­on also have the opportunit­y to pursue this programme.

A diploma in a technologi­cal area, with at least three years of experience in a Logistics or Supply Chain related field will also be considered.

This unique course is recommende­d for supply chain personnel ( practition­ers in procuremen­t, warehousin­g, demand and supply planning, distributi­on and transport, freight forwarding, aviation and maritime) aiming to become technical specialist­s in sectors such as FMCG, manufactur­ing and health-care, 3PL, import and export and for recently employed graduates beginning a career in logistics and supply chain management. Commenting on the unique features of the programme, Dr. Ganga Samaraseka­ra, Course Coordinato­r said, “As a Masters degree program we focus on developing the technical knowledge of practition­ers in the logistics and supply chain industry. The programme has nearly 10 years of developmen­t history in UK. During its history, participan­ts from 14 countries have graduated and are now employed in all parts of the world”.

It is built on the four pillars of Strategies, Management, Technology and Systems to cover the necessary skills for logistics and supply chain practition­ers. Special emphasis is given for Lean & Six Sigma, Manufactur­ing Strategy, Supply chain modeling simulation, Wa r e h o u s i n g , Transporta­tion, SAP and Enterprise resource planning. This programme is the first to use a Supply Chain Guru Simulation & Optimizati­on framework. In addition students have the option of applying for SAP certificat­ion at a discounted price. The UK delivery of the program is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) – UK ”.

Elaboratin­g further she said, “Our lecture panel with extensive industrial and academic experience is our key strength. By enrolling with a large scale higher education institute such as SLIIT (No 1 Ranked Higher Education Institute in Sri Lanka by LMD in 2013), students have access to a state of the art library, housing a large number of books including all recommende­d text books, online research databases required for self- studying, the SHU virtual learning environmen­t, laboratori­es and support of full time academic staff at any time”.
