Old Boys quad on again
The Old Benedictine’s Sports club, who initiated the Saints Quadrangular in 1963 to celebrate the College Golden Jubilee, is organising the 48th edition of the event with the College now celebrating the Sesquicentennial (1865 – 2015).
The other three Saints are the Old Anthonians, Katugastota, the Old Josephians, Darley Road and the Old Peterites, Bambalapitiya.
The Saints quad which includes, Cricket (Main Quad 50-over and the Over-40 quad 25-over), Basketball and Rugby Football will be held during the weekend of August 22 and 23, 2015. Saturday, August 22: (A) 50-overs matches: Old Bens Vs Old Joes at Kotahena and Old Antonians Vs Old Peterites at Darley Road; both games will commence at 9.30am
(B) Over-40/25-over matches: Old Bens Vs Old Joes and Old Antonians Vs Old Peterites at De Mazenod College Grounds, Kandana. (Morning and afternoon)
(C) 11th Basketball Tournament at St. Benedict’s College Courts, Kotahena, commencing 8.00am.
(D) 2nd Rugby Football Tournament at St. Peter’s College Grounds, Bambalapitiya, commencing 9.00am (will be played to a finish.)
Sunday, August 23: (A) 50-over Main at Kotahena
Over-40/25-over Darley Road (C) Basketball finals at Kotahena
The series tally of the main 50-over cricket quad stands at: Old Josephians 15, Old Peterites 14 and Old Bens 13, Old Antonians nine (including three joint winners).
The Old Benedictine’s Sports club is headed by Malsiri Perera, the Old Antonians by Ranjith Peiris, Old Josephians by Prethiraj Silva and the Old Peterites by Romesh de Mel. – LR
