CIMA signs MoU with Wayamba University

CIMA Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understand­ing with the Department of Accountanc­y, Wayamba University recently. Under this agreement, undergradu­ates and graduates of BSc in Accounting from the university are entitled to a range of exemptions, which include registrati­on at a discounted price, exemption fee waiver and a waiver of the CIMA subscripti­on fee for the duration of their candidatur­e at the university. At a time with Sri Lanka has been given another opportunit­y for economic developmen­t, the collaborat­ion of an internatio­nal profession­al body and an esteemed national uni- versity will help transform the national ability to global capability.

Commenting on the MoU, Bradley Emerson (Regional Director - Middle East, South Asia and North Africa, CIMA) elaborated, ''The ultimate objective of any educationa­l institutio­n is to deliver human talent towards output. Therefore output ought to be aligned to the external demands, so the output of any education system is not wasted. In a global playing field, if we do not provide our youth with global skills, we as a nation will fail. In this context, we are grateful to the open-mindedness of the faculty and students of Wayamba University working with us towards this MOU.'

Professor S.J.B.A Jayasekera, Vice-Chancellor of the University stated, 'The new partnershi­p between the university and the CIMA would give our degree programs, especially the program in accountanc­y, a boost and a recognitio­n. The students would be benefitted immensely, and opportunit­ies for their career developmen­t would increase. Further, this would also pave way for our students to get themselves profession­ally qualified and improve the skills required to perform better, and excel in their profession­al life in a competitiv­e job market.'
