International Renowned Photographer and Fashion Celebrity Visits Raffles
Raffles Design Institute ( RDI), was delighted to welcome Nigel Barker to its Colombo campus on Wednesday 22nd July. In addition to being a well known and well respected international photographer and TV personality, he is also an author, spokesperson, filmmaker and former model. Nigel is perhaps most well known as a judge and photographer on the reality show “America’s Next Top Model”, and he now hosts the reality show “The Face” with Naomi Campbell.
Part of his proud heritage is Sri Lankan, and he has recently been visiting the coun- try with his family. The week-long event was conceived and supported by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts who presented “Nigel Barker - A Workshop on Photography, Fashion, Modelling and Inspiration” at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo 3 on 23rd July. This well attended workshop was powered by the Raffles Design Institute Colombo in collaboration with the hotel group.
After meeting with faculty members and support staff, Nigel toured the campus accompanied by Associate Prof. Julie Ross, and then addressed a group of stu- dents who were highly motivated and inspired by his presentation. He encouraged the students to be determined in their ambitions, open-minded in their creativity and passionate about all they do. Prof Steve Rawlinson President of Raffles Design Institute said “the students were privileged to have an opportunity to spend time with such an internationally successful photographer and celebrity. His presentation embodied the very passion and commitment that he spoke about, drawing upon his vast, fascinating experience across the globe”.
