IELTS - the ticket to Study in USA, Australia, UK or Canada

-

International English Language Testing System ( IELTS) is the world’s leading and most popular English language test for migration and for study and work overseas. According to recent records, annually over 2 million people take the IELTS test and the number is rapidly increasing due to its popularity and recognition globally. More than 9,000 universities, government bodies and professional organisations accept IELTS scores, and there is a growing demand for IELTS preparation services and courses.

IELTS - maintains high standards

IELTS test takers and the organisations which rely on IELTS test results benefit from IELTS’ continuing investment in quality assurance, research and development to ensure that the test remains robust and relevant. Leading academics and researchers worldwide contribute to the continued development and improvement of the IELTS test. There is a system in place to ensure IELTS remains fair and unbiased – wherever and whenever the test is taken. IELTS encourages, reflects and respects international diversity and is fair to anyone who sits the test, regardless of nationality, background, gender or lifestyle. Markers are trained to understand the IELTS marking policy and are required to demonstrate that they are marking to standard before they are allowed to mark the papers. Markers are re-tested every two years to ensure that their marking remains up to standard. Systematic monitoring and double marking of a proportion of answer sheets is carried out at each administration. IELTS test scores are valid for only 2 years. Only take the test if studying abroad within the next 2 years. Candidates receive scores on a Band Score from 1 to 9 which demonstrates their English language ability from being a non-user to an expert user. Candidates receive a score for each test component – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The individual scores are then averaged and rounded to produce an Overall Band Score.

Total time for the entire test is 3 hours: reading, writing and listening will be done together and the candidates will be given a different time and a day for the speaking test.

Listening and reading: IELTS Listening and Reading papers contain 40 items and each correct item is awarded one mark; the maximum raw score a candidate can achieve on a paper is 40. Band scores ranging from Band 1 to Band 9 are awarded to candidates on the basis of their raw scores.

Writing: Examiners award a band score for each of four criterion areas: Task Achievement, Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. The four criteria are equally weighted.

Speaking: Examiners award a band score for each of four criterion areas: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy and Pronunciation. The four criteria are equally weighted.

IELTS Academic version for students

Academic IELTS is comparatively harder than the General Training version and may contain source texts featuring more difficult vocabulary or greater complexity of style - which is why students should be well prepared prior to the IELTS test to face the exam confidently. ANC provides necessary guidance and ensures that our students gain a good IELTS band score to secure their study destination abroad.
