One Direction smash the charts with latest release

Aweek after they sprang a surprise with the release of the song ‘Drag Me Down’, One Direction smashed the UK singles charts taking the No: 1 spot with little or no battle. The quartet set a new streaming record of 2.03 million plays for ‘Drag Me Down’ after it earlier smashed a record of topping the iTunes charts in 82 countries in the first 24 hours of its premiere. The pop rock song is 1D’s fourth UK No: 1 song after ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ (2011), ‘Little Things’ (2012) and ‘One Way Or Another’ (2013). ‘Drag Me Down’ is written by Jamie Scott, Alfie Grant, John Ryan and Julian Bunetta. The latter are the producers too. This is the first chart topping song for 1D since the departure of Zayn Malik last March. One Direction continues undeterred. T he Calvin Harris & Disciples duet ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ moved four notches on the UK singles chart to peg down at No: 2. The summer dance hit sees Harris team up with the electronic group Disciples who comprise Duval, Gavin Kool and Luke Mac from South London. The unaccredit­ed vocalist on the song is Ina Wroldsen. R ising and gaining entry into the UK top 10 is the song ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ by Weekend as it climbed the chart from 17 to 8 this week. The Canadian singer’s song has taken hold in many countries like the US where it peaked at the No: 2 recently. The pop track has a slight Michael Jackson influence and is taken from Weekend’s album ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’.

A giant bug caused a rude interrupti­on to Little Mix during a performanc­e in Phoenix, Arizona in the US last weekend. The girls were doing an acoustic version of ‘How Ya Doing?’ when the bug began towards Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards prompting them to squeal and yell whilst still singing and ducking the bug. Shoes etc were used to dispel the creature as a cameraman came to their rescue. Little Mix is in the US to promote their new song ‘Black Magic’

Prince has cautioned young musicians about record labels contracts calling them “indentured servants”. Prince who has a history of rebelling record labels referred to such contracts like slavery. Prince is due to release his new album ‘HITNRUN’ on the streaming service TIDAL on September 7 in addition to its physical release.

He debut album ‘English Rain’ in 2012 attracted 63.5 millions streams on Spotify, 80 million on YouTube and 1.5 million singles sales with the No: 1 song ‘The Power of Love’. E lvis Presley the “King of Rock N Roll” will get an orchestral makeover when a collection of his classic hits will be released as an album called ‘If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmon­ic Orchestra on October 30.
