IT industry requires employable graduates

According to leading industry firms, Sri Lankan IT / ICT sector is saturated with many technically competent staff. Many employers complain about the lack of softskills, industry knowledge, and personality related issues among their new hires. A quick look at the existing qualifications in Sri Lankan state and non-state higher educational qualifications can reveal the main reasons for this problem. Since many study programs focus only on the development of technical expertise the graduates does not have the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to solve real-life problems encountered in the job market. The examination focused evaluation system has been criticized by many educational and industry experts as producing only technically competent graduates who are only suitable for “specific roles” in operational and technical levels.
