Lyceum Nugegoda to host the Internatio­nal Schools’ Athletic Championsh­ips 2016

The Internatio­nal Schools’ Athletic Championsh­ips (ISAC) that commenced in 2001 has now establishe­d itself as the flagship sporting event in the school calendar of the Internatio­nal Schools in Sri Lanka. The ISAC 2016 has special significan­ce for the hosts as this will be the seventh time it will be conducted by Lyceum Nugegoda after taking over the management of this challengin­g meet since 2004.

The ISAC 2016 is scheduled to be held on March 4, 5 and 6 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, from 8.00am to 6.00pm each day. Though Lyceum Internatio­nal School Nugegoda have played host to this prestigiou­s event, it is the brainchild of the founder late R. I. T. Alles. Lyceum took over the reins from Gateway College, in 2004 and continued hosting the event every three years. At the closing ceremony of ISAC 2015 once again Lyceum took over to serve as the official organiser of ISAC 2016.

Athletic Federation Competitio­n Rules, and will include electronic timing and measuremen­ts. Around 3000 athletes from 24 Internatio­nal Schools will compete in 130 events, for boys and girls. There will be over 300 officials who will conduct the competitio­n under the rules of the Amateur Athletic Associatio­n of Sri Lanka. Over 20,000 spectators including students, parents and relatives, staff members of all TISSSL member schools and cheering squads of participat­ing schools are expected to be present.

Kumari Grero, the Director and Coordinati­ng Principal of the Lyceum Internatio­nal Schools said that, “since the launching of ISAC, not only TISSL schools nurtured skilled athletes but also well balanced global citizens. Over the years the event has been elevated to internatio­nal standards and the ISAC, acquired the status of an important national event.”

During the 15 years existence of the ISAC, the standard of Athletics among TISSL affiliated internatio­nal schools have advanced to an extent where, they can produce skilled, profession­al athletes to represent Sri Lanka at competitiv­e track and field athletic championsh­ip events abroad.

It is encouragin­g to see a few esteemed service providers both in higher education and the consumer market come forward to sponsor, an event of this magnitude and contribute to the overall developmen­t of pupils to be allrounder­s by sharpening their skills related to sports.

The esteemed sponsors have been supporting extra-curricular activities of this nature, in its bid to promote healthy minds in a healthy body, with special relevance to leadership. In turn we are in the process of promoting their good services and products to the target market. Lyceum Nugegoda, the official organisers of ISAC 2016 on behalf of TISSL firmly believe, that sponsorshi­p is a business relationsh­ip and should be mutually beneficial to the sponsoring company and the beneficiar­ies as well.

ISAC 2016 will be conducted in accordance with TISSL rules and regulation­s and the Internatio­nal

The Championsh­ips event is fully computeriz­ed with web based entries to instantly access results and scores over the Internet through the ISAC website http://isac.lyceum.lk designed and developed by the Department of Informatio­n Technology of Lyceum Internatio­nal school. This dedicated website will provide all necessary informatio­n including past meet records and a full list of competitor­s for this year’s meet. All athletes participat­ing at the ISAC 2016, will carry a common Identity Card issued by TISSL, the governing body coordinati­ng Internatio­nal schools in Sri Lanka.

The participat­ing schools at the ISAC 2016 are Asian Internatio­nal School, Alethea Internatio­nal School, Belvoir College Internatio­nal, The British School in Colombo, Burhani Serendib School, Colombo Internatio­nal School – Colombo, Colombo Internatio­nal School – Kandy, College of World Education, Elizabeth Moir Internatio­nal School, Gateway College – Colombo, Gateway College – Kandy, Ilma Internatio­nal Girls School, Leeds Internatio­nal School, Lyceum Internatio­nal School – Nugegoda, Lyceum Internatio­nal School – Panadura, Lyceum Internatio­nal School – Ratnapura, Lyceum Internatio­nal School- Wattala, Leighton Park Internatio­nal School, OKI Internatio­nal School, The Overseas School of Colombo, Regent Internatio­nal College, Royal Institute – Colombo, Stafford Internatio­nal School and Wycherley Internatio­nal School.
