Students of Wilgamuwa Maraka Vidyalaya visit Government Treasury
The students of Maraka Maha Vidyalaya of Wilgamuwa in Matale visited the government treasury building during an excursion in Colombo recently (June 22). Maraka is a very difficult area situated in the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division in the Matale District.
The students were privileged to meet with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake during their visit to the Treasury building. In a conversation with the minister, the students told the minister of lack of facilities that have affected them in continuing their studies hassle free.
Having listened to the grievances of the students, the minister instantly pledged to provide 1.5 million rupees to restore the school play ground. Addressing the students and their teachers, the minister said that the aim of this government is not only to provide educational facilities for the students of urban schools but grant necessary facilities for the benefit of their fellow students living in difficult and rural areas as well in order to build a future generation full of knowledge.
Finance Minister Karunanayake further said that the government’s budget for this year has allocated enormous funds for the education sector and such action has clearly demonstrated the noble aim of this government. Later, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake offered several sets of books for the use of Advanced Level students of the Maraka Maha Vidyalaya. Teachers of the Maraka Maha Vidyalaya and a group of parents were also present at this event.
