-

Janidu Jayawardene, the promising allrounder from Bandaranayake Vidyalaya Gampaha scored his second century at the ongoing Singer All Island Under 15 Division I cricket tournament when he scored a swashbuckling 126 n.o. in the second round match against St. Aloysius College, Galle.

Jayawardene a member of the Sri Lanka Under 15 team that toured Malaysia scored his first ton in the preliminary round match against Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya. But the heroic efforts of this talented allrounder failed to reap the harvest as Bandaranayake Vidyalaya failed to snatch victory in both second round games so far.

In the first match of the second round against St. Anne’s College Kurunegala after putting into bat the rock city lads were dismissed for 196 in 61.5 overs. Kavindu Ratnayake top scored with a fluent 73. Sandaru Pathirana was the most successful bowler to capture 4 for 45.

In their run chase Bandaranayake lads failed to maintain the required scoring rate and at the close they were 114 for 6 in 52 overs.

Janidu Jayawardene came off with flying colours in the second match against St. Aloysius’ College, Galle scoring an unbeaten ton in just only facing 137 deliveries. He sent the ball to the boundary on 17 occasions with sweetly timed strokes and lofted over for four mighty sixes. Hasitha Gayashan with 56 played a supporting role for Jayawardene helping the Gampaha schools to amass 233 for the loss of 7 wickets in 61 overs.

St. Aloysius’ batters found left arm paceman Pasindu Sankalana too hot to handle as he captured all six wickets that fell giving away only 37 runs. Aloysians were 134 for 6 at the close facing 41 overs.
