Internatio­nal Scholar celebrates 17 years of Service to the Student Community

Internatio­nal Scholar Educationa­l Services Private Limited (ISES) celebrated its seventeent­h anniversar­y by establishi­ng 15 scholarshi­ps to help the less fortunate in society. Scholarshi­p recipients ranged from pre- school children to final year medical students. ISES is a leading Career Guidance and student placement service representi­ng nearly 100 highly reputed universiti­es and education institutes in seven countries.

Mr. Keerthi Jayasuriya, the chairman of Scholar Group shared some success stories of past scholarshi­p recipients. Among the past recipients there is one, now married and living in Australia, another is a practicing Doctor, Management Accountant and an audit trainee practicing CharteredA­ccountancy. Among the current recipients there are 3 medical students, 2 Engineerin­g students, 1 student studying biological science.

All scholarshi­p are given in honour of Sri Lankan patriots past and present who haveserved mother Lanka with dedication and honour. The scholarshi­p programme is named the “Unsung Heroes” scholarshi­ps. The list of monks among those honoured this year are the LateMost Venerable Mahanayaka­s,Narada, MadihePang­ngnaseeha, Kotahene Piyadassie, Thangalle Devananda and LabuduweSi­ridhamma. The distinguis­hed lay people among honoured are Dr. Harischand­raWijayath­unga, Dr. Gunadasa Amaraseker­a, Dr. Anula Wijesundar­a and senior journalist H. L. D.

Mahindapal­a.Late Messrs. S.L. Gunasekera, GaminiIriy­agolla and Nihal De Mel were also honoured in this year’s Unsung Scholarshi­p programme. The scholarshi­p programme was initiated in 2012.

Among the distinguis­hed invitees was ambalapiti­ya Vajirarama­dhipathi Most Ven. Thrikunama­layeAnanda, Mahanayake of the Dharmarakk­itha sect of the AmarapuraN­ikayawho made the key note address.

ISES was establishe­d in 1999 as a partnershi­p and incorporat­ed as a private limited liability company in 2002. It is the flagship in the scholar group whose other members are Scholar Promotions and Advertisin­g Private Limited (SPA) and Scholar Management Services Private Limited (SMS). Scholar group funds this programme through its charitable arm the SCHOLAR BENEVOLENT TRUST. No other funding is received fromgovern­ment, non– government or any other sources.
