Manzil’s ascend to fame

Anan Manzil, is another rising star from the hill capital who signals of a long journey in the field of table tennis that is sure of bringing fame to his alma mater.

This 15-year-old lad from Trinity College with a born talent for table tennis learnt to handle the TT racquet as a toddler with the correct technique. Year by year this toddler showed signs of being a top class player where he was able to compete with boys bigger.

A player with nippy foot movements and with a sharp eye having the ability to read the opponent and plans his shots giving no chance to counter attack. With a solid defence and smashes with tremendous power is the hallmark of his young paddler.

Manzil’s talents were exhibited in the All Island Intermedia­te/ Novices Table Tennis Championsh­ips held at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium tables recently.

In this event conducted by Tibhar Sports Club for the 12th consecutiv­e year with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Associatio­n Manzil was crowned the Most Outstandin­g Player of the tournament. In the Under-21 singles finals this young Trinitian displayed top quality table tennis to defeat the more experience­d opponent. Manzil narrowly missed a triple crown as he went down fighting in the Under 18 and in the Open Novices events to finish as runner-up.

Manzil was at the helm in this tournament which was competed of over 500 paddlers from various parts of the island will be an asset to his school and the country is sure to be a player to be reckoned with in the near future.
