Wattala thrash Nugegoda by 170 runs in an all-Lyceum Cricket final

Unbeaten tons by Shermeegan Saridan and Gihan de Zoysa laid the foundation for Lyceum Int. School Wattala to emerge champion of the Internatio­nal School U19 cricket tournament.

The duo’s knocks enabled the side to record a comprehens­ive 170 run win over Lyceum Int. School Nugegoda in the final played at the Health ground. Shermeegan cracked a 112 with ten boundaries while Gihan slammed a quick fire 97-ball 102 which included 12 boundaries and a six.

The pair was associated in an unbroken 198 run stand

Semi-finals:

(Jash Udeshi 4 for 10, Yasas Abeysekera 3 for 18)

(Nisal Hettiarach­chi 4 for 10, Semindu Bandara 3 for 19) for the third wicket helping Lyceum Int. School Wattala to end their innings making a formidable 278 for 2.

Lyceum Int. School Nugegoda in their run chase was never going to reach the required target as their batsmen failed to make any Ifthab 49 n.o.)

Final:

(Shamith impression with left arm spinner Gihan following his valuable knock along with Pavith Lahandakur­uge and Kavindu Rajakaruna shared nine wickets to bundle out their opponents for a paltry 108.

Earlier in the run up to the Nugegoda by 170 runs Lyceum Int. School Wattala 278 for 2 in 40 overs (Shabiq Isththariq 41, Shermeegan Saridan 112 n.o., Gihan de Zoysa 102 n.o.: Avinash Perera 2 for 49) (Semindu Bandara 29, Pavith Lahandakur­uge 21: Gihan de Zoysa 4 for 40, Pavith Lahandakur­uge 3 for 11, Kavindu Rajakaruna 2 for 26) final Lyceum Int. School Wattala coasted to an easy ten wicket win over Lyceum Int. School Panadura while Lyceum Int. School Nugegoda got the better of Asian Int. School Colombo by 24 runs in the two semi-final encounters.
