Devapathiraja, Wesley, DSS and Richmond advance to pre-quarters

-

Devapathiraja MMV Rathgama along with Wesley, DSS and Richmond advanced to the pre-quarter finals of the Under-17 Division One Cricket Tournament which is in progress now.

The Rathgama lads defeated Sri Devananda MV Ambalangoda by 40 runs. The foundation for Devapathiraja MMV’s win was laid by Pethum Madusanka whose half ton saw them make a modest score of 169 while Sri Devananda MV in their run chase was able to muster a score of only 129.

A fine knock of 80 by Hasitha Perera and supported by a useful knock by Thisuraka Amarasinghe helped Wesley coast to a four wicket win over Maris Stella Negombo in the second round match played at Negombo.

Maris Stella taking first lease of the wicket made a modest score of 234 and Wesley in their run chase raced to the target with four balls to spare.

Half tons by Deemantha Kaushalya and Nimesha Shashindra paved the way for DSS to record a thrilling one wicket win over Lumbini MV in a second round match played at Wijerama Mawatha.

Richmond had little difficulty to stave off the challenge of Dharmaraja thanks to an allround performance by Thaveesha Abhishek which helped them to record a 45-run victory in the match played at Kandy.

Gurukula MV Kelaniya coasted to an easy 106-run win over Mahanama Colombo in another second round match of the same tournament played at Kadirana.
