Japanese govt.'s "Global 30" project offers English medium Scholarships

The Japanase government’s ‘Global 30’ project is offering around 200 scholarships to Sri Lankan students who have completed their Advanced Level.

A total of 300,000 international students are given the opportunity to study in Japan under the ‘Global 30’ project, for which 13 universities have been selected by the Japanese government to nurture internationally competent individuals in an academic environment that provides for students to interlace with Japanese students and gear them to meet the demands of a competitive global job market.

The Degree programmes are conducted in English and initially, students are not required to be proficienct in Japanese.

Tissa Senadheera, father of a student studying in Japan, said that, "Sri Lankan students do not apply for these scholarships as they are ignorant of its existence. Scholarships students are offered JPY 50,000 per month which covers their monthly expenses, while another JPY 25,000 can be earned from giving English tuition to Japanese students," he said.

The universities under the "Global 30" Project are well equipped with fine Research, Computer and Library facilities, enabling students to learn in a state-of-the-art environment.

The entrance examination can be taken through interviewbased admission procedures which allow international students to apply while still in their respective countries, with interviews conducted from their current location using TV conference systems or allied devices.

Assistance is also provided in career planning, visas, financial support, housing and other requirements the students may need.
